What does it mean to have a Green Point Rated Home?

The GreenPoint Rated label is the mark of quality for green home design and construction. It is a recognizable, trustworthy, independent seal of approval that verifies a home has been built or remodeled according to proven green standards. Green labels like GreenPoint Rated improve property resale values, and give property owners the peace of mind of living in a quality green home.

How does LMS Design help you obtain your GreenPoint rating?

Build It Green has trained and certified me as a GreenPoint Rater and Advisor. This means I am uniquely qualified to team up with you to maximize your homes performance and green features. I guide you through the GreenPoint rating process by; assisting with energy efficiency and water conservation choices, developing and maintaining indoor air quality strategies, specifying appropriate sustainable materials, assuring resources are used efficiently, guiding construction methods, and maintaining community continuity.

What are GreenPoint Rated points based on?

To make sure that every GreenPoint Rated home is healthy and efficient from the inside out, points for green home improvements are awarded across five different categories:

EnergyEfficiency ENERGY EFFICIENCY: lighting · insulation · heating and cooling
ResourceConservation RESOURCE CONSERVATION: recycled materials · durable buildings
IndoorAirQuality INDOOR AIR QUALITY: healthier materials · optimal ventilation
WaterConservation WATER CONSERVATION: high efficiency toilets · drought resistant landscapes
Community COMMUNITY: walkable neighborhoods · bicycle parking

Points correspond to proven green building standards for New Home Construction, or Existing Home Retrofits. Point values are based on each measures benefit to the homeowner and the environment. They reflect construction practices that exceed even California’s tough new building and energy code requirements. Projects that achieve a minimum of 50 total points, and meet category specific point thresholds, earn the right to bear the GreenPoint Rated label. Homes that exceed this minimum are rewarded with a higher grade.

What does all this mean?

GreenPoint Rated label promotes healthy, energy and resource efficient buildings in California. Build It Green has developed the GreenPoint Rated system as a comprehensive green building rating system for homes of all vintages, styles and genres.
